Fashion Edits

What I have done with this image is colour in the dress at the bottom so that it matches with the other dress below I did this by going on the pain brush tool on photoshop and lowering the capatity and the flow to about 40%. I then made the background into black and white and added a bit of contrast to it.

What I have done with this image is I have made the background black and white like on the other photograph I have also put a bit of contrast onto the photo so that the dress stands out and brightened it up.

With these photographs I have edited them just by putting a black and white background on them. I did this with the quick selection tool. I then inversed the selection and brightened up the clothes so that they stood out.

With this photo again I haven't done much with it all I have done it Put a black and white background on it and brightened up the clothes a bit.

Final Photographs Evaluation

Landscape Photographs:

This is one of my 4 landscape photographs, I really like the way the sand has come round and how it's the main focus. I really like the clouds in this picture. I haven't done much edit to the picture because I liked it as it is, and didn't think it needed much edit. What I have done though is just added a bit of contrast so that the sand stands out more. With this image  I love how simple and effective the image is. I like how I have done a long shot image to capture a vast area of the landscape. I've tried to do my  landscape photograph like Ansel Adams and the first picture I Analyse because I liked how he had the mountains in the background, but trees leading up to them. I have tried to make my photograph like this by making the sand lead up to the mountains, which I think is really cleverly done, but with my picture I have kept the colour whereas in Ansel Adams he has done his in black and white. What I have done in every landscape photograph is the clouds in the sky. I really think the clouds should be part of the picture because it gives the image a realistic effect and brings it more to life, and the colour of the clouds breaks the orange from the blue which looks really good. The intended audience for my photograph would be people who like the historical pictures of Barrow and people who love the town. I could see this picture being on a postcard because of the long shot view and how the picture has been captured. It makes Barrow In Furness somewhere nice and peaceful to go and visit. The lighting is light in the photograph. There is a lot of contrast in the photograph with the sand especially with the stones. The angle of the camera is on a slight angle. I focused the depth of field to make the photograph really sharp and zoomed all the way out so you can see a lot of the beach. I have used an ISO 100. I have used this setting so that the brightness of the photograph stands out.   I also used the shutter speed of 1/60, this is a quite a quick shutter speed it lets in a bit more light. The aperture setting on this photograph was F6.3 I used this setting because it brings out the details on the photograph, for example the attention to detail on the sand.
With this image I really like the clouds and how they are all different shades. I haven't done much to this image, all I've done is made the image have more contrast, but with all the landscape photographs I haven't done much edit because I felt I didn't need to. This image was done on a nudest beach in Barrow. Again with this image I love the colour of the clouds with the different colours of blue, purple and white. The mountains again I tried to capture the similarity of Ansel Adams because his work is amazing and he was one of the people who I wanted to do my landscape photographs on. The sea reminds me of two separate worlds, like a person is looking over to get to the other side to see if its better. When I look at the image it's reminds me of a unrealistic world because of the amount of colour involved in the image, compared to the first landscape photograph. With this picture I have tried to use the rule of thirds using the clouds as the first rule, the mountains as the second and the bottom of the beach as the third rule of third. The lighting is quite dark and there is a lot of contrast in the photograph with the sand and the clouds. The angle of the camera is front view. I focused the depth of field to make the photograph really sharp and zoomed all the way out. I have used an ISO 100, you can tell this because of the brightness of the image.  I also used the shutter speed of 1/125, this is a fast shutter speed , the camera lets in more light on this setting and the contrast brings the colours out. The aperture setting on this photograph was F6.3 I used this setting because it brings out the details on the photograph, for example the attention to detail on the clouds.
With this photograph again I like the sky and how bright it is when I took the photograph I didn't expect it to be that big.  With this photograph I wanted the stream of water in the center to be the main focus because I thought it looks unusual and really like how it makes your eyes look into the water. I love the contrast of the photograph how the clouds are light and the sand and sea is dark it really contrasts well together. The camera angle is on a front angle but has been taken on a high surface looking across. The ISO was 200, but I brightened the clouds by selecting them on Photoshop and brightening them up. I used the shutter speed of 1/150 as you can see this image is a bit darker than the other 4 photographs, but it makes it unique. The aperture setting for this setting is F6.3 I used this to bring the attention to detail on the photograph. I also used the focus on the camera to make the photograph really sharp. I have used the rule of third in this image , the first third is where the stream touches the sea. the second is the top of the hills and the third is the clouds. I think using the rule of thirds really helps because it makes the photograph look more professional.
With this photograph I had to contrast the sand to make it darker. I really like the sky again on this one because of the cream and the white and the dark blue. The sea has been darkened and looks like the other photographs. I really like how the contract of the beach reflects on the brightness of the clouds. For this image I used the ISO of 200 but I selected the clouds firstly I brightened them up to make stand out but I also used the curve tool on Photoshop to make the mountains, the sand and sea to contrast. The aperture setting was done with F6.3 like all my landscape photographs, I did try to use different aperture setting but I thought this looked the best for my landscape.  I used the rule of thirds in this photograph having the top of the mountains as the first third, second third is to the water, then the third is from the sand. I got inspired by Ansel Adams who does a lot of photography and with clouds as well, but he does his photos in black and white, whereas I prefer my photographs to be in colour to show the contrast and the attention to detail in each photograph.

 Architecture photographs:

This picture is a image of a church in Nottingham, What I did with this picture is I darkened the image and brightened up on side of it to make it look like the sun was shining down on the church. I have split it into 2 photographs so that I can make the image bigger on the page. I like this picture because of the contrast of the picture and where the sun hits the clock face. With this picture of the church I used a slow shutter speed of 1/25 to make the light stand out. I then went on Photoshop and used the selection tool and made the church a bit darker. With this photo I love how the clouds stand out. The aperture setting was F6.3 as you can see it has brought the attention to detail come out of the picture. I used the the ISO of 200 because it was a really nice day so I used a darker ISO to brighten the image up. I got inspired to do the angle of the photograph by the photographer Matt Lively. Like my image Matt Lively photos are very minimalist and like Matt's the sky really brings the building out from the picture. The angle of the photograph I have done is from a high angle, so you can see the extent of the building and how big it actually is. This is I have cut up to make the image look even bigger it was originally just one image. I have done this so that when it come to the exhibition This will be the first image that people see on my architecture photography.

This picture was took in Nottingham at the christmas market. I wanted it to be a close up of the building, so that you can see the old building and how unique they are. With this picture I made it in black and white and made the contrast of the image so that the house stands out. This photograph I took was inspired by Kulian O'Sullivan and how close he gets to buildings.  I also really like the sharpness and contrast of the photograph that I have took. The aperture setting of the photograph was F14 because it was really bright outside and using a higher aperture setting lets less light in so it bring more of the colour out. I also used the shutter speed 1/50 so that some light came in and so that the photograph wasn't fully black. I think these settings went really well together. Because of the closeness of the image I had to amend the focus so that the house would be in focus. the ISO I used for this image was 100.
With this image I put a black and white wash on it so it looked old. I like the angle on this photograph and the way I have made the lanterns go off in the distance. I put some contrast and darkened the image a little bit but I think it works well. I used the appeture setting of F6.3 because of the weather, this really captures the true detail in the wall, and it works well with the contrast of the black and white as well. I put the ISO on 100 because I wanted the image to be bright in some bits but dark in others. That is why I used the shutter speed of 1/200 so that not a lot of light goes through the photograph. I got inspired from Kulian O'Sullivan because he does a lot of close ups of buildings and gets the attention to detail really good. I have used the rule of third in this photograph as you can see. The lighting is very bright at the top f the photograph whereas the lighting in the lower part looks really dark and mysterious.
With this image I took as I was getting on the train to Nottingham, with this image I really like the clouds in the sky and how it goes round the building which I didn't recognized until I looked at it more closely. What I also like about this picture is how the trees are on either side of the photograph and peering though is the building. With this image I have put a black and white wash on it so that it fitted with the theme of my other photographs. I got inspired from Matt Lively, he does a lot of high angled buildings and he was one of the people who inspired me to do these types of photographs. With this photograph I have used the black and white filter. I used the shutter speed of 1/200 which i thought worked really well with the clouds as I have captured them as they were moving. The aperture setting on this photograph was F6.3 which captures the sharpness. As you can see with each of the windows on the building and how detailed they. The ISO setting I used was 100 because there wasn't much sun out at this time I wanted as much light on the photograph as possible. What I do like about this photograph though is how dark the trees are.
This is also a really unusual picture that I have taken. I like how the building is on an low angle. I have put the picture in a white and black wash. I like the sky how it looks really cloudy I haven't done much to this photograph  I just used the curve tool to make the contrast right. This photograph I used the ISO of 200 to make the photograph darker. I also went on Photoshop and used the curve to to get the shades and contrast in the photo. With this photograph I used the shutter speed of 1/100 to get some light in the photograph but not that much to make it seem bright. I wanted the photograph to look like it was dull and dark. With this photograph again I was inspired by the photographer Matt Lively and how he take high angle shots of buildings. I used the aperture setting of F6.3 to capture the sharpness of the photograph and I think with this photo it works really well.

Fashion Photographs:
This fashion was done in a shop window in Manchester, I really like how I have done the black and white background it was quite hard separating the colour and the black and white. But I thought it looks really good and the clothes stand out which shows fashion at it's peek. This photograph I took I used a ISO of 100 and didn't use a flash on it the reason being is because it was taken in a shop window so if I used the light it you would be able to see the glass and the reflection in the camera. I also put the camera on a shutter speed of 1/200 so that there isn't much light. This photograph reminded me of the photographer Richard Avedon because of the unusual postures he uses for his models. I have choosen to bring the colour out of the photograph on some of the clothes because that's what i'm trying to promote in the pictures fashion. The aperture setting was F6.3 which I thought was the best one when I did a couple of trail shots in different aperture setting they looked to dark . If I could do these picture again I would make sure that the whole of the models body including her feet are in it and I would make the third model at the back come more in the picture.
This image was taken in another shop window, What I have done to this image is took the colour from the background which I did with the other one, This was the hardest one to edit because of the outline of the image, you can see the outline so I have developed that and made it less noticeable and also with the part between her legs, I think this is one of the things if I was to do it again that I would change. After I noticed the issue I changed it so on my final piece you can't actually see the bit in between her legs. Like with the image I have tried to get the colours on the clothes to stand out. For this photograph I used the ISO of 100 and the shutter speed of 1/200 I used the manual setting so that I can adjust the ISO like on all the photographs. With the ISO it makes the photograph lighter but because I have used a shutter speed of 1/200 it contrasts together and makes a good balance in brightness which doesn't show much reflection in the glass. I used the aperture setting of F6.3 which makes the image really sharp and captures every detail. Again this photograph reminded me of the photographer Richard Avedon because of the unusual postures he uses for his models.
This images going to be going on the center of the A1 boards so that it stands out, what I have done with this dress is I have put a colour on the dress so it's the same colour as the other dress, also I have took out the colour of the background so that the dress stands out from the picture, and makes it the main focus like with the rest of the photographs. I have used a shutter speed of 1/200 it contrasts together and makes a good balance in brightness which doesn't show much reflection in the glass. I used the aperture setting of F6.3 which makes the image really sharp and captures every detail. This photograph I took I used a ISO of 100 and didn't use a flash on it the reason being is because it was taken in a shop window so if I used the light it you would be able to see the glass and the reflection in the camera.
This image wan't as much edited as the other image above, I again took out the background to keep the theme going with the fashion photos, I also brightened the dress up to make it stand out a bit more. With this image I used the shutter speed of 1/100 to make the image look brighter I also went on Photoshop and highlighted the dress to make it the same colour as the one above. I used the aperture setting of F6.3 which makes the image really sharp and captures every detail.  I put the ISO on 100 because I wanted the image to be bright and make the colour stand out As well as making the black stand out also.

Architecture Edits

what I have done from this photograph to the final black and white photograph is that I have put it in black and whit and darkened the trees so that they stand out, so that you can the building peeping through the trees.

What I have done to this photograph was black and whitened it so that it was like the rest of the other images and then I put the contrast up and dimmed the brightness down so that the black stood out more.

what I have done with this photograph is changed the angle of the town hall and then made it black and white. Then I went on the curve on photoshop and made it darker on some bits and lighter on other.

What I have done with this picture is made it black and white like the rest of the photographs, and made the contrast dark so that the black stood out and made it look more like a tudor house I really like this photograph in black and white.

Landscape Edits

The first image you can see above is the photo I took of Walney Beach. I have edited the colour a little on photoshop. How I have done this is by going on the curve button and adjusting it a little so that the sand on the beach stands out from the picture. I have also brightened the sky a little so that the picture has that contrast of dark and light. I really like the clouds on this picture and I think what I have edited was enough, I think if I did anything else to it, it wouldn't look like the picture.

The edit I have done from this picture is firstly I have zoomed in on the picture, from the bottom. I did this because I wanted the stream that goes from the river to the water to be the first thing you see on the photograph. What I then had to do was clone the clouds and the water to make it fit because I also cropped the edges as well. I then went on the tool bar and did the curve button which then brightened up the sky and darkened the sand and the water as you can see.

As you can see from this picture I have not done a very lot to the photo because I liked it as it was, what I have done is I have made the image a bit darker and used the contrast button so that the sand stands out on the picture. I haven't done much to the sky because I liked it as it was.

Purpose
My main purpose for my architecture photography is going to be done in Nottingham. This is then going to be exhibited in the gallery at Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form College.

Audience
The intended audience is going to be aimed at people who like Architecture photographs and photography in general. I’m aiming it at these types of people parasitically because not a lot of people are interested in architecture photographs so it narrows the range of people.

Concept
The concept of the architecture photography is going to be pictures of close up of building of Nottingham city the shots are going to be mainly extreme close ups and close ups of the building and the history of Nottingham. The photographs are going to be similar to/9/
`

landscape is going to be based on the beach; the images are going to be of the sea and the beach. They are going to be wide shot angles so that you see as much as possible of the landscape. There is going to be sand and water in the shot. The image is going to be really simple but effective.

Location
The location of the shots that I’m going to be taken is going to be shot, in Nottingham, the reason I chosen this location is because it’s old and the building were really unique compared to building in Manchester I wanted to explore a different town and capture the city in my eyes.

Quantity
The size of the photograph of two of them will be 7x12 photographs, the other ones will be 7x5 and there will be 4 of them. There will be 4 of them on an A1 black page. I want to have them at this size because you will see the attention to detail and the sharpness of the photograph in each one.

Usage rights

Health and stafety in photography

Photographic industry is made up of organisations employed  between one and four people and the majority of these are self-employed. The 1974 Health and Safety at Work etc. Act places the responsibilities on employers, employees and the self employed.

Responsibilities
  • It is the duty of every employer, so far as is reasonably practicable, to ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of all his employees.
  • For employees to take reasonable care for their own safety and that of others.
  • For self employed people to conduct themselves in such a way that people not in their employ are not exposed to health and safety risks.
Locations
The following health and safety considerations should be taken into account before, during and after assignments. The following relate to assignments on location:
  • the photographer should have current employer and public liability insurance, including cover for people engaged by him on an occasional basis. Remember, these certificates should be securely archived for forty years
  • the photographer and his assistant should have motor vehicle insurance which covers their vehicles for business use
  • the photographer should have a formal agreement with the customer outlining their requirements
  • should carry out a visit to the location to discuss arrangements with the customer, requesting where necessary, permission for access and right to take photographs
  • should carry out a risk assessment particular to the areas where the photographer may wish to take photographs
  • should ensure that where necessary the location has adequate fire precautions and signage in place
  • should consult with the customer, where necessary, of the location on any risk assessment they may have carried out and what actions were required and have these been effectively implemented
  • should share with the photographic assistant any health and safety concerns and if necessary the location management
  • should ensure that all equipment is maintained and safe to use, especially flash equipment
  • should ensure that all employees including those self employed are trained to use equipment safely
  • should take precautions to minimise any identified potential problems related to safety affecting the assignment and to any other people at the location.

Risk Assesments
Risk assessments are very important to identify any potential hazards that may be encountered either on the photographer's premises or on location. There are several risk assessments the photographer should undertake in relation to his premises. These include:
  • fire precautions
  • using display screen equipment (DSE)
  • manual handling
  • control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH).

Fire precautions
These relate to having adequate types of fire extinguishers, which must be regularly serviced; displaying escape and emergency signage and ensuring escape routes are free from obstructions.

With the increased use of computers and digital equipment for manipulating images it is essential to consider the people who use a display screen equipment  for long periods of time. It is very important to ensure that the computer, the workstation and the working environment meet current safety regulations, to lessen the possibility of wrist and eye strain.

Most photographers at sometime have to lift reasonably heavy and bulky equipment, such as flash lighting. A risk assessment will highlight the potential damage to the human torso, which may result in long-term absence from work. Manual handling training can help people to store equipment at correct heights and how to lift objects. Also, a risk assessment can indicate where mechanical aids such as trolleys can be of help.

With the advent of digital imaging in the industry, chemicals for processing and printing (wet processing) are not so widely used. There are however certain products used which are hazardous, for example, batteries and printer ink cartridges, along with industrial cleaning substances.

Electrical safety
Electrical safety is also very important. All electrical equipment such as flash equipment, kettles, microwaves etc. should be tested (usually referred to as portable appliance testing) at specified intervals. The electrical wiring installation of the photographer's premises also requires testing at specified intervals. A competent person should carry out all testing and records of these tests must be kept.

Location safety
This  mainly resolves around 'trips, slips and hazards'. Each location should be assessed to ascertain hazards and where possible to control these to reduce any injury resulting from an incident, especially to any member of the public. Photographers, their employees and the self employed should work within the framework of the Health and Safety at Work Act, and where reasonably practicable, take steps to ensure the safety of themselves and others around them.

autumn photography

This image reminds me of autumn because of how the leaf on the tree has turned yellow/brown, I thought it was a really nice picture because it was the only yellow leaf. I like the close up and the attention to detail, to the lines on the leaf.

I really like how I have blurred the leaves out at the front and how the further back you go the clearer the leaves get.

This is an opposite picture to the one above I like how I have focused the camera onto the leaves you can see the lines on the leaves, and how sharp the sticks are. what I like about this image is the fence in the background how it breaks the picture up.

This is one of my favorite pictures because it sums up autumn, with the leaf and the wet weather on them makes it really come to life and it just explains autumn in a nut shell. I like how the front leaf it really blur and the rest of the image is in focus. I like how all the picture is green with the leaves apart from the brown leaf which stands out from the picture.

This image which I took really looks like the start of autumn because of how the leaves are just starting to turn yellow and brown. I like how I have done it portrait because of the stem of the plant. As you can see the leaves are in focus, I have done this by putting the camera settings on depth of field, I really like the lighting on this photograph because it brings out the brown.

There are a lot of leaves in this picture because it's really busy and lively. I like this picture because of the colour contrast of the yellow and green on the leaves. It looks really autumn. I like how I have used the rule of thirds in this picture with the yellow leaves in the 2nd third and with he sticks.

This picture is probably one of my favorites because, of how simple the image looks. There is hardly anything in the background because I have blurred it out and also the leaf is really in focus. This image I have took I tried using the rule of thirds by putting it in the center so it stands out.

how to set up a studio setting

First we had to thread a pole through the white paper, then we had to set the stands up by making sure they were straight  and level with each other. This picture is of me and Nicole leveling the stands to make the the right level.

This is me making sure the stands are level with each other, straightening them out to make sure the paper is level with the other side. We did this to make sure that the paper, was okay and checked if there was any rips in the paper.

This is a picture of me and Nichole undoing the roll of the white paper, after we checked that the roll was okay.

After me and Nichole, undid the roll, we had to put  some weights onto the the paper so that it didn't crinkle up, and to make it more stable.
These two photographs were of me and Nichole doing the stands for the lighting set up. We did this really easily making sure the stand was level. The picture above is a close up of me tightening the lighting stand before putting the light on the top.
This is me putting the light together on the stand the first picture is of me screwing the light into the stand. The second image is me putting the lighting cap onto the lights. This was alright but I put it on the wrong way at first until I realised that the hole was on the top when it was suppose to be on the bottom.

These 3 pictures are of me doing the finishing  the lighting off, what I had to do first was to establish were to put the umbrella, I then poked it through the hole, as you can see in the second picture. I had to tighten the screw so that it stayed in place. I then leveled it to the right height which I thought to do it at eye level.

This is Nichole sorting the other lightening out. what she had to do was put the soft box onto the light by twisting it on in a certain way. this was fairly simple to do.

This is me and Nichole checking the plugs and getting them prepared for the lighting we had to untangle them, and use an extension cord to make it easier to handle with.

This picture is me looking at the voltage of whats in the plug to make sure its the right one if it isn't the right voltage it could blow up the lights which wouldn't be good. We had to change one of the voltages because it was a 10 amp and the other one is only a 5 amp.

With checking the plugs we first put the extension into the lights before we plugged it in, we then checked the plug to see if it was okay and if the fuse was high enough, The last picture is us both putting the plug into the switch. Before I put the wires into the plug socket I checked to make use that the light was switched off and the everything was off before I switched it on, this has to be done so that there was no electric shock.

This is me and Nichole checking the lights testing them to see if they are okay and working together. As you can see the red button that is the test button and the first white button is for the infer red, which triggers off the other lights. We did a couple of test just to be sure they were working.
This is a flash reader. What it does is it picks up the flash from the lights, then when you take a picture on the SLR it lets you what the aperture should be. We did a trail test, before we took the finishing picture of Nichole.
This is the final shot of Nichole after we put all the lighting and the equipment up, I think this is a really good photograph and the lighting is really well lit and I think the flash reader gave out a good reading. Because we got a good end result.
